Wanderers win Central T20 Premier League Title

WANDERERS returned to the summit of Namibian cricket after beating WHS Old Boys by six wickets in the Premier League T20 final on Saturday.

In a close encounter, Old Boys scored 138 for 8 wickets off their 20 overs, while Wanderers scored 142 for 4 wickets with two balls remaining.

In Old Boys’ innings Zane Green went early for 6 runs, but Wimpie Viljoen 33 off 29 balls), Gerhard Erasmus (39 off 32), and Craig Williams (30 off 28) all made telling contributions, while Malan Kruger added 6, Divan La Cock 8 and Ruben Trumpelmann (8) as they were restricted to 138.

JJ Smit was Wanderers’ most successful bowler, taking three wickets for 26 runs, while Karl Birkenstock took 2/29, Jan Frylinck 1/31, Bernard Scholtz 1/19 and Nicolaas Scholtz 1/16.

In Wanderers’ innings, Niko Davin went for a golden duck, but JP Kotze scored 22 off 16 balls, JJ Smit 10 and Karl Birkenstock 30 off 23. Michau du Preez was however their star batsman, scoring 45 not out off 50 balls, while Jan Frylinck added 29 not out off 22 balls as Wanderers reached 142 for 4 wickets with two balls to spare.

For Old Boys, Mauritius Ngupita took two wickets for 28 runs and Craig Williams 2/26.
