U19 National Trials

Cricket Namibia would like to wish you a prosperous 2021 and we are looking forward to continuously strengthen our relationship with schools and improve our administration.

Cricket Namibia will be hosting phase 1 of the U19 National Trials from the 29th to the 30th of January 2021.

Purpose

It is our vision to implement a structure that allows equal opportunity, which is fair to all players and transparent to all stakeholders. Considering the amount and quality of exposure of our school players; our trial structure aims to create more opportunities to participate while not neglecting any player irrespective of geography.

With that in mind, our main purpose of the upcoming trials is to select the best players for the Namibia U19 team which is going to take part in World Cup qualifiers to be held in Nigeria in September 2021. Five African countries will compete, with the top team will secure a spot in the ICC 14th edition U19 World Cup to be held in West Indies in early 2022.

Trial System

The identification for the initial squad of forty-eight (48) players was done through consultation with selectors and the evaluation of players performances during school leagues, National tours in December 2019 and their performance during the National Week in December 2020. The group of forty-eight (48) players will participate on the above weekend where the squad will be reduced to twenty-eight (28). These players will then attend two training weekends and participate in various inter-squad games before the squad will be reduced.

Selection Criteria

Middle and net sessions will be used along with National week stats as well as School league stats.

Selection

Cricket Namibia has appointed high level, experienced and representative selectors under the guidance of an objective convener to achieve the selection of the best possible teams.

Only players who are Namibian citizens and born after 1 September 2002 can be considered for selection as per ICC stipulation and regulations by the Namibian Sport Commission.
