National Men’s Team Captain – Press Release

Cricket Namibia would like to welcome Jan Frylinck as the new captain of the senior men’s National Team with immediate effect.

Jan was born in the Cape, South Africa but is now a Namibian citizen and has represented Namibia since 2016. As an all rounder he has made many telling contributions including 158, his first 1st class century, against Scotland in June 2017, centuries in successive innings against Eastern Province and Border in January 2018 and 5 for 38 off 16 overs bowling against Easterns in 2017. During his time as a Namibian player he was under the captaincy of Sarel Burger who retired earlier this year. He has therefore had the perfect opportunity to learn from an outstanding captain. As a left-handed batter and bowler he also brings balance to both batting and bowling attacks and his fielding in the slips has been a consistent feature. Cricket Namibia have every confidence in Jan and we wish him the best with this important milestone in his career.

At the same time that we welcome Jan we bid a temporary good-bye to Stephen Baard, who took over the captaincy from Sarel Burger earlier this year. Stephen has accepted a playing contract in Auckland, New Zealand and will be away from October this year until the end of March 2019. Cricket Namibia also wish Stephen the best with this endeavour and await his return for the ICC 2020 WCT20 qualification tournament next year.
