FirstRand Namibia has boosted Cricket Namibia’s grassroot level development programme with N$ 250 000. Kwata Cricket was established in 2009 to create awareness of in the underprivileged communities in Namibia to promote a heathly and active lifestyle, the program started out in just one region which was the Erongo region focusing on Walvis Bay and Swakopmund. Over the year the programme has been made visible in the rest of Namibia, with correspondences spreading into as far as 10 regions.
The programme has been proven to be successful, with particular stories of Ben Shikongo whom also started his cricket career through this program. Ben has represented Namibia on many international platforms, the most recent was at the 2018 U19 Cricket World cup that was held in New Zealand. Another success story is that of Arrasta Diergaardt who is currently part of the National Women’s team.
