Cricket Namibia is hosting a two-match T20 series whereby the Eagles face Multiply Titans for the first time on Namibian soil.
The two fixtures are scheduled to take place on Friday, 28 June at Sparta Cricket Ground in Walvis Bay (13:30) and on Sunday, 30 June at Trustco United Sports Ground in Windhoek (13:00).
‘Epic Clash between Namibia and Multiply Titans’ will be one of the most exciting, extravagant events that Cricket Namibia has ever hosted in partnership with APS and is not to be missed! This will be an exciting tournament for the Eagles and an opportunity to test themselves against the best Franchise in South Africa. The Multiply Titans will arrive in Windhoek on Wednesday 26 June and will then head to the coast for three days before heading back to the Capital for the remainder of the week-long tour.
The tournament will be an exciting one as Namibia’s National Head Coach, Pierre de Bruyn and the Namibian Assistant Coach (Albie Morkel) both played for the Multiply Titans before getting into coaching. Some Multiply Titans players are currently abroad and on international duty in the ICC Cricket World Cup, so a 10 men squad will travel to Namibia. The Titans will be supported by the return of Albie Morkel, who will make one outing in sky blue colors for the very last time.
“We are very proud to welcome the Titans, as they have set standards to aspire to on and off the field. We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship,” said de Bruyn.
The Namibia Women’s Cricket team will also be part of this fun-filled event and they will start off the day on the Trustco United field at 09:00. The two teams will consist of U19 and U16 players who will be balanced out in the two teams. The women recently participated in the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier and they are excited to get on the field after their performance in Zimbabwe. The Captain, Yasmeen Khan says that the team just needs to improve on their batting skills and mental strength. This will be a great platform for the women to showcase themselves, inspire and motivate young girls to one day become great cricket players.
The squad that will represent the Eagles in the coast on 28 June are; Stephen Baard, JP Kotze, Lohan Louwrens, Merwe Erasmus (Capt.), Zane Green, Karl Birkenstock, Pikkie Ya France, Jan Frylinck (Vice-Capt.), JJ Smit, Mauritius Ngupita, Ben Shikongo, and Matthew Stander. The coastal team will be managed by Dee Thakur, the Head Coach will be Lauritz Haccou and he will be assisted by Coach Fortune Matawu.
The players that will be representing the Eagles on 30 June 2019 at Trustco United are; Stephen Baard, JP Kotze, Bernard Scholtz, Merwe Erasmus (Capt.), Jan Frylinck (Vice-Capt.), Pikkie Ya France, JJ Smit, Zhivago Groenewald, Danie Van Schoor, Tangeni Lungameni, Ben Shikongo and Lohan Louwrens. The city squad will be managed by Dee Thakur as well, the Head Coach will be Fortune Matawu and he will be assisted by Coach Lauritz Haccou.
This will be a great tournament where you can expect many fun games, engaging activities and amazing prizes to be won on Sunday, 30 June.
Both matches will be free entrance and we invite our cricket fans and family to a fun, splendid Sunday with our Cricket Stars.
