Capricorn Group hosts send-off for Capricorn Eagles

Capricorn Group, the official sponsor of the Capricorn Eagles hosted a special send-off for the national women’s cricket team before they depart to Dubai to compete in the T20 International Tournament.

In August, Capricorn Group, in collaboration with Capricorn Asset Management and Capricorn Private Wealth, officially extended its partnership with Cricket Namibia for a third year. The renewal of the sponsorship agreement reaffirms Capricorn Group’s steadfast support for Namibia’s national women’s cricket team, officially known as the Capricorn Eagles and their continuous commitment to advancing girls’ and women’s cricket in Namibia.

“The remarkable strides achieved by the Capricorn Eagles, guided by Cricket Namibia, fill us with pride. The growth and development we have witnessed are evidence of strong leadership and the strategic application of resources. We remain committed to our community, as we firmly believe that the investments, we make today will yield positive outcomes for Namibian girls and women in the future. We wish them all the best as they depart to Dubai for the T20 International League. We know that they will make us proud and fly the Namibian flag high”, said Marlize Horn, Capricorn Group Executive: Brand & Corporate Affairs at the send-off.

Cricket Namibia’s strategic vision for women’s cricket in Namibia is to creatively professionalize the women’s game to support the players and to grow junior structures and participation through organised girls cricket festivals and girls cricket school leagues. The Capricorn Eagles, representing the heart and spirit of Namibian cricket, will face off in six T20 International matches against the UAE women’s national team. This series promises to be a showcase of skills from both teams.

National Women’s coach, Francois van der Merwe said, “we are excited to play international games against UAE. We hosted UAE in the recently held Capricorn Eagles series in April, and beat them 2-0. We are now going to play in the unknown – a different condition and it is going to be a different experience for the team. The humidity in Dubai will play a factor in the tour, but we are well prepared.”

Marlize Horn of the Capricorn Group also expressed pride in the partnership with Cricket Namibia, whose leadership has demonstrated passion and commitment to cricket development over the years. “Capricorn Group thrives in creating positive change in our communities, and hope that our continued support of women’s cricket in Namibia will nurture the sport and increase female participation. Since our partnership with the Capricorn Eagles started in June 2021, the team has made great strides in local and international tournaments. We are proud to be associated with these inspirational women,” she said.

The Capricorn Eagles have shown incredible growth, resilience, and skill over the past few years. The Dubai T20 International tournament is a perfect platform for the Capricorn Eagles to demonstrate their skills on the international stage and further solidify their position in global women’s cricket.
