Annual Salt Refiners Cricket Festival

The Annual junior cricket festival caters for the U11 and U13 age groups, the tournament has been hosted every year in August for past 20 years, this year will be no different. This tournament was previously also known as the Spur Week and the sponsorship was taken over by the Salt Refiners to be renamed to what we know now as the Salt Refiners Tournament. The tournament structure will be the  8x o/11 en 10x o/13 teams that will take part.

A message from John Heynes (Organizer) includes his well wishes for this year’s festival, adding that “the tournament should be played in good spirit to will give all the cricketers and coaches the opportunity to prepare for the upcoming school cricket leagues. We wish all the teams the best of luck over the next few days. Enjoy the festival both on and off the field.”

Another message by Andre Snyman Managing Director- Walvis Bay Salt Refiners, stating that “This year we are celebrating 101 years of cricket in Namibia, and as such this 21th consecutive junior cricket tournament at the coast will be a special event. We are privileged to confirm that the well-known South African batsman Henry Davids will officiate at this year’s event.This tournament remains an unique opportunity for every young cricket player. Many players who participated in this tournament in passed years progressed through the ranks and later represented Namibia even at senior national level.”

The tournament is anticipated to be jam packed with cricketing fun for all to enjoy. Organisers believe that all players, coaches, managers and supporters will enjoy this year’s event and that long – lasting memories will be created; new friendship will be formed and old ones continued on and off the field of play. “Very important is the promoting a positive cricket etiquette and spirit of the game.”
