Outjo starts with the development of Girls Cricket
The year 2017 started on a very high note with the development of Outjo very first girls cricket team which currently consist of 18 players from the age the of 10-14 years, the girls are all products of FNB Kwata-Cricket Program. The girl’s team is made up of players from various schools across Outjo, the coaching for girls is done every day in the afternoons from 14:00-16:30 with the assistance of some senior players from the u/13.
Participation in FNB Kwata-Cricket Continues to grow
The FNB Kwata-Cricket Development programme in Outjo continues to grow with all three government schools namely Jack Francis Primary School (PS), Outjo PS and Marssen PS are all actively involved in the effort to get children involved in sports. We are happy to announce that the interest in cricket within young children is ever increasing as we have more children playing softball cricket now compared to previous years. Statistics shows that over 150 children in Outjo play Kwata-cricket this is proven through the attendance of Fun-Days. The FNB Kwata-cricket has produced players that are currently playing in the u/11-u/13 hardball cricket teams boys and girls, which we believe is a sign that the program is a successful. The coaching for the Kwata cricket is done every day in the morning during the normal school hours with all boys and girls involved with the assistance of some P.E Teachers.
FNB Kwata-Cricket Coaching Course Hosted in Outjo
Cricket Namibia on the 17/18 February hosted the FNB Kwata-Cricket Coaching Course which was a great success; the course was hosted at the Etosha Garden Hotel and was conducted by Kwata-Cricket Facilitator Jona Ambuga and the U/19 National Team Head Coach Rangarirai Manyande the two day event invited teachers and hardball cricket players from various schools across Outjo to be educated in the basic Mini-Cricket Coaching skills and techniques such as focused on Bowling, Batting, Scoring and Fielding to over 20 participants. Furthermore, this was also a great platform for our u/13 cricket players as they had the opportunity to be coached by a National coach and they really experienced a lot when it comes to playing quality cricket.
OK Foods Outjo Now Official Sponsor of Oujto u/13 Cricket Team

After successfully competing in various competitive events throughout the year of 2016, Outjo cricket has reason to attract sponsors such as OK Foods Outjo one the successful businesses in Outjo. The events that leading up to this sponsorship to be particular is that in 2016, a team was chosen to participate in the one of the biggest annual events The Coastal Cricket Festival which is held in Walvis Bay (during August holiday) where the team scooped some great awards. The same team then also participated annual Edugate Academy Cricket Festival Theo Supaspar Cricket Festival held as from the 21-23 September, where the team ended in the top three. The team went on to participate in the Ondangwa Annual Tournament where the team ended the tournament as runner-up. The Manager of OK Foods Outjo Mrs Elaine Mostert was greatly impressed by the team’s performance and decided then to enter into partnership to sponsor Outjo’s very own u/13 Cricket team. One the 14 March 2017 OK Foods Outjo sponsored Match-T-shirts to show their support.
Outjo u/13 Cricket participates in the Cricket Namibia u/11&13 Development Festival 2017
On the 24/26 March 2017 Cricket Namibia hosted the first ever development tournament/festival which was a great success, the teams that participated were Outjo, Walvis Bay and Windhoek this was really a great learning experience for our players as their never visited Windhoek which is the Capital city of Namibia our boys played a total of 7 matches on a round robin basis and performed extremely well. We thank Cricket Namibia for giving our players such a good learning experience and exposure to competitive cricket.
During the prize giving ceremony one of our star players Shifula Hanneb was awarded with the Best all-rounder Medal, this is the second time Shifula Hanneb is receiving an award he was also the best overall wicket keeper for the u/11 age group category in the Walvis bay Coastal Cricket Festival 2016.
FNB KWATA-Cricket Launch a Great Success-Outjo
Cricket Namibia in Partnerships with the FNB of Namibia hosted the FNB Kwata-Cricket Launch in Outjo on the 01 April 2017. The event attracted the interest of children from various schools across Outjo, there were practises that were held as from the 29th March 2017 with the children being coached by Cricket Namibia Development Officers as a preparation for the Fun-day that was held on the 1st April 2017. The children received coaching in various aspects of cricket such as Batting, Bowling, Fielding and Fitness all to make sure that the children were properly equipped for not only the Fun Day but also to teach them these skills and techniques for future use which we feel is going to be very beneficial for all our hardball players in various age group teams such as u/11 to u/13 teams, “the players were really excited to be coached by new coaches who came from Windhoek” – Wilhelm Tuhfeni.
01 April 2017 Fun Day – Outjo
After a week’s-long promotion of the Fun day on 01 April Saturday, the children from all schools in Outjo started arriving at the Etoshapoort Stadium from as early 07:00 in the morning. Kids were entertained by some good music as they waited for the proceedings to start. There was a total of over 120 children from local schools in Outjo between the ages of 8-15 years that attended the event. The event was kicked off with welcoming remarks by Cricket Namibia’s CEO Dr. Donovan Zealand, who was excited to see the keen interest that the children had about cricket. He also added that Cricket Namibia was fully in support of the growing interest that the children of Outjo have. His remarks were followed by a brief speech by the FNB Namibia branch manager for Outjo Mrs. R. Kruze, where she on behalf of FNB Namibia expressed that it was not only to their delight to part take in the event but also because of their distinct dedication to the development of the youth of Namibia. Lastly the deputy Mayor took the stand and delivered a message of unity and togetherness when it came to the youth of the community of Outjo, he also stressed that it is important to get local business people involved with development within the town. After the formalities the children were then divided into 7 teams, with each team having a Development Officer with them as they played matches amongst themselves and also practised a few more drills. After all the festivities the children were provided with Snack packs to re-energise as the set off on their way back home.
