Cricket Namibia held its fourth FNB Kwata Cricket Festival at Etoshapoort Sport Stadium in Outjo, Kunene Region. More than 200 FNB Kwata cricket players from Outjo Primary, Jack Francis Primary, Maarssen Primary, Outjo Secondary and Etoshapoort Junior Secondary participated in the festival.
The festival started with hardball coaching on Friday, 4 October and ended the festival with an exciting FNB Kwata fun day on Saturday, 5 October. The festival was attended by children from all the corners of Kunene Region.
FNB Kwata Coordinator, Jona Ambuga attended the festival and he feels that fun days usually affirm that there is an interest in the game of cricket, while having players that have come through the program coaching other upcoming stars shows the success of the program and creates hope for the young players to become national players. Cricket Namibia Development Officer, Justice
Hangula (Walvis Bay) and Wilhelm Tuhafeni (Outjo) where joined by 20 young coaches who assisted in making the FNB Kwata Festival a success.
Wilhelm Tuhafeni was impressed by the number of participants that took part in the 2019 FNB Kwata Cricket Festival, “The numbers of participants keep increasing when we host events in Outjo and which means that cricket is growing in the Kunene Region.”
The FNB Kwata Cricket Festival aims to promote and bring the game of cricket closer to the smaller communities and to expose the Namibian child to one of the most elite sport in our country. The Kwata Festival was made possible by FNB, the main sponsor of FNB Kwata cricket and Erongo Foods sponsored the participants with refreshments throughout the festival.
