The development of Girls cricket continues to grow and the participation in the Outjo community has increased over the past two years since the inception of girls/women’s cricket in Outjo.
Young girls’ between the ages of 10 – 16 years, have shown interest and have so far joined in the various age group girl’s cricket teams. The girls have already competed in various competitions and tournaments across the country. In October 2017, the Outjo Girls’ Team toured to Tsumeb, they also participated in the Annual Cricket Namibia Women’s/Girl’s Cricket development festival which was hosted in Windhoek in December 2017.
With competing in these competitions, the Outjo Girls’ team has been determined to go for gold and take Outjo girls cricket to greater heights, the team consists of passionate, committed and very hard working young girls.
This past weekend on Saturday the 16 June 2018, a training camp for the Outjo Girl’s Cricket Team was conducted. The training camp was regarded as a success for the event organiser – Cricket Namibia Development officer Wilhelm Tuhafeni. “The camp was aimed at developing the technical and tactical skills and knowledge of our girl’s cricket, the camp which kicked off on Saturday contributed significantly towards the growth and development of our team, the camp was organised to focus on various aspects of cricket such as fitness, batting specifics, bowling specifics, wicket keeping and fielding.” said Mr. Tuhafeni
Over 20 girls age between 12 and 16 years of age participated in the training camp which was conducted at the Outjo Sports Stadium, the camp is also form part of our preparations for the upcoming women’s cricket league which is scheduled to kick off in August 2018. Outjo Girls team will make their first time appearance to this respective women’s cricket league.
