ICC Development officer for Africa region, Patricia Kambarami, has released the official memo which lists the upcoming ICC tournaments schedule for the region in 2019 and 2020 and Namibia have been awarded the hosting rights for ICC U19 World Cup Africa Division 1 qualifiers.
Namibia will be hosting the qualifiers from 15th – 24th Mar, 2019 and will be competing against U19 squads from Kenya, Uganda, Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Tanzania, from which the winner will advance for 2020 ICC U19 World Cup in South Africa.
Nigeria U19 won the ICC U19 World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifiers in Potchefstroom, South Africa. Sierra Leone finished as the runners-up, while Tanzania U19 claimed the final qualification spot in the play-off match against Mozambique U19.
Namibia U19 and Kenya U19 took part in the 2018 ICC U19 World Cup in New Zealand with Namibia being direct entrant via their standing (best Associate nation finish) in the 2016 edition in Bangladesh, while Kenya U19 qualified from the regional qualifiers.
