WINDHOEK, NAMIBIA – In a media event held at the FNB Namibia Parkside head office in Windhoek, FNB announced its associate sponsorship of the Namibian Men’s Cricket team, the Richelieu Eagles, marking yet another significant milestone for Namibian Cricket.
The announcement follows FNB’s sponsorship of the FNB Namibia Cricket Stadium, which was announced in July of this year and builds on a longstanding relationship between Cricket Namibia and FNB Namibia through the FirstRand Group. An ongoing supporter of various sports codes, including cycling, rugby, the women’s soccer league, netball, swimming, basketball, running, karate, inline hockey, and equestrian sports, the Group believes in the transformational role that sports plays within society and its ability to foster socio-economic growth.
The FirstRand Group remains dedicated to developing sports and places a special emphasis on nurturing aspiring athletes and preparing them for the world stage. FNB Namibia, Chief Executive Officer of Retail, Nangula Kauluma, said the sponsorship underscores FNB’s commitment to the growth and development of Namibian sports at all levels. “At FNB, we believe in supporting many levels of cricket in Namibia—from the development of grassroots sports such as our award-winning Ashburton Namibia Kwata Cricket all the way through to the ultimate level of greatness—that of the game at a national and international level.”
She further emphasised that Namibia is filled with potential, which FNB is looking forward to unleashing through the partnership. “By investing in the future and success of our national cricket team, we are investing in a future where our athletes can shine on the global stage, bringing pride and recognition to Namibia. Our country is filled with potential, and we are extremely excited to play a part in unleashing that potential. On behalf of FNB Namibia, I am especially excited for us to build on our longstanding relationship with Cricket Namibia and help tap into the full potential of our great nation,” she added.
Cricket Namibia Chief Executive Officer, Johan Muller, noted that associate sponsorships in Namibian sports are an opportunity necessary to help teams to compete at the international level. “It is indeed a great day to celebrate the Associate Sponsorship with FNB Namibia and our national men’s team. Associate partnerships in sports are rare but create enormous opportunities in value creation for both entities. We want to thank FNB Namibia for seeing the value in this partnership. Our national men’s team has performed exceptionally well in the last four years and is at the start of a new four-year cycle. There could not be a better time for this partnership to start,” he said.
Muller added, “Sport in Namibia is dependent on the support of corporate institutions to be able to compete at the international level. FNB Namibia is an extremely strong Namibian brand, and we are proud to be associated with them.”
This sponsorship promises to elevate Namibian cricket and instill a sense of national pride that inspires aspiring both aspiring athletes and organisations to continue to invest in local sports.
The FNB logo is now proudly incorporated into the National Men’s Cricket team’s shirt.
