Capricorn Eagles Soar into Finals

The Capricorn Eagles, Namibia’s women’s cricket team, delivered a nail-biting performance to edge out Hong Kong in a captivating match at the Mission Road Ground in Mong Kok. The Eagles, known for their grit and resilience, secured their spot in the tournament finals with just two balls to spare, showcasing the heart and determination that has become their trademark.

Hong Kong won the toss and opted to bat first, putting up 81 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. The standout performer for Hong Kong was Shanzeen Shahzad, who anchored her team’s innings with 47 runs off 56 balls. However, Namibia’s bowling attack proved once again why it is their strongest suit. Wilka Mwatile delivered a crucial breakthrough in the 17th over, dismissing the dangerous Shahzad and further restricting Hong Kong’s scoring momentum.

The Eagles had bumpy start in their innings as the batting lineup struggled to find rhythm against Hong Kong’. Despite the rocky start, Kayleen Green emerged as the hero for Namibia, demonstrating her all-round prowess. Green’s 18* off 20 balls provided stability when it was most needed, and her earlier contribution with the ball (1 wicket) underscored her value to the team.

The Eagles held their nerve, finishing the chase with just two balls to spare. The victory highlighted Namibia’s ability to perform under pressure and the strength of their bowling attack, which consistently keeps them in contention.

This thrilling win propels Namibia into the finals where they will face Thailand.
