The Capricorn Eagles are excited for an international tour as they head to Uganda for the Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) Women’s Day Cup, scheduled to take place from March 8–16, 2025. The Namibian squad will depart for Uganda on the 5th of March, ready to compete in a high-stakes quadrangular tournament.
The tournament will feature four teams: Namibia, Uganda (hosts), Hong Kong, and Nepal. They will all battle it out in T20 International (T20I) matches, with the aim of improving their global T20I rankings.
The Capricorn Eagles have been in excellent form, with a packed schedule towards the end of 2024. They dominated Malaysia in a T20I series, securing a 3-0 clean sweep. Following that, they travelled to Hong Kong, where they made it to the final but narrowly missed out on the championship.
From a batting perspective, Captain Suné Wittmann led from the front with consistent performances, well supported by Vice-Captain Yasmeen Khan. The Capricorn Eagles are known for their strong bowling attack, with Wilka Mwatile and young talent Saima Tuhadeleni delivering standout performances.
“Last year, we proudly renewed our official partnership with Cricket Namibia. The remarkable strides achieved by the Capricorn Eagles under the guidance of Cricket Namibia fill us with immense pride. The Capricorn Group, together with Capricorn Asset Management (CAM) and Capricorn Private Wealth (CPW) as the official sponsors of the Capricorn Eagles, remain committed to this community because we believe that the investments we make today will bring positive outcomes for Namibian girls and women in the future,” said Marlize Horn, Capricorn Group Executive: Brand & Corporate Affairs.
The upcoming tournament in Uganda presents an exciting rematch, as Namibia will face Hong Kong again, a team they competed against just a few months ago. The matches will occur at the Entebbe Cricket Ground, where Namibia will aim to showcase their strength against familiar opponents. The Capricorn Eagles last faced hosts Uganda in 2023 during the ICC Women’s T20I World Cup Africa Qualifier and earlier in May 2023 at the Capricorn Eagles Series in Windhoek. Both encounters highlighted the growing rivalry between the two teams, setting the stage for more thrilling games between the two countries.
Namibia’s women’s cricket development pathway has been thriving, producing a solid mix of young, promising players alongside seasoned senior stars. The squad heading to Uganda reflects this balance, ensuring the team remains competitive.
