The Capricorn Eagles delivered an exciting performance against China, clinching a 10-wicket victory in the Hong Kong tournament. After losing the toss, Namibia was put in the field first, but their disciplined and aggressive bowling was in control.
China opted to bat, but the Eagles’ bowlers proved relentless. China managed only 55/9 in 20 overs, with the Eagles’ attack delivering class and intensity. Senior bowler Irene van Zyl showcased her experience by taking two wickets, maintaining a phenomenal economy rate of 0.25. However, it was Player of the Match, Wilka Mwatile who stole the spotlight, claiming an incredible 4 wickets for only 6 runs in her 4 overs, completely knocking down China’s batting lineup.
In response, Namibia’s batters wasted no time. Captain Sune Wittmann led from the front with an unbeaten 48, blasting back-to-back boundaries and displaying fearless aggression. Openers Sune and Edelle demonstrated their growing synergy, making good decisions and applying pressure on the Chinese bowlers. Their confident and attacking approach helped Namibia chase the target in just 4.1 overs, with 95 balls remaining.
Reflecting on the team’s progress, Captain Sune Wittmann said:
“We pride ourselves on playing fearless cricket—expressing ourselves with confidence in the middle. Our goal is to carry this momentum beyond this tournament, into the Malaysia tour, and into the World Cup Qualifiers next year.”
The team will enjoy a day off, focusing on recovery with physio sessions, exploring Hong Kong’s sights, and savoring local cuisine before taking on the hosts in their next match.
