Irene made her international debut on April 1, 2019, against Botswana in Windhoek. Stepping onto the field at 33, she quickly proved that age is just a number, becoming a cornerstone of the Namibian women’s cricket team and setting an example of perseverance and excellence.
Throughout her career, Irene represented Namibia in 67 Women’s T20 International matches, showcasing her talent and tenacity. As a right-arm medium pacer, she delivered 1,168 balls, claiming 47 wickets at an impressive average of 19.25 and an economy rate of 4.64. Her best bowling performance—an outstanding 4 wickets for just 7 runs—demonstrates her ability to change the game single-handedly.
With the bat, Irene contributed valuable runs, scoring 270 across 42 innings, with a top score of 23. Though her primary role was with the ball, her resilience and adaptability made her a key player, always willing to step up for her team when needed.
One of her standout performances came against Sierra Leone, where she delivered her best bowling figures of 4/7, playing a pivotal role in Namibia’s dominant victory. Matches like these solidified her reputation as a match-winner and a true leader on the field.
Beyond the statistics, Irene’s impact on Namibian cricket goes far deeper. As captain of the Capricorn Eagles, she led with grace, confidence, and an unwavering commitment to her teammates. Her journey from debutant to captain is a testament to her hard work, perseverance, and the immense respect she earned both on and off the field. She has been a shining example for young girls across Namibia, proving that dreams are achievable through determination and dedication.
In her heartfelt retirement announcement, Irene expressed gratitude for an injury-free career and the privilege of representing Namibia.
